The next big thing…

I have been reading Paul Graham’s (YC) post from today. (http://paulgraham.com/ambitious.html) I must admit that I am new to reading Hacker News so this is the first time that I have been introduced to Paul Graham’s actual blog. His ideas for the next big idea or startup are inspiring.

His ideas:

1. A New Search Engine

2. Replace Email

3. Replace Universities

4. Internet Drama

5. The Next Steve Jobs

6. Bring Back Moore’s Law

7. Ongoing Diagnosis

I feel in-tune enough with the world to know that these all if accomplished correctly would all be big. I don’t feel like I have acquired the programming skills that would be necessary to launch anything major. Whether I like it or not, I am essentially a basic C++ programmer, that doesn’t feel comfortable enough to explore.

The projects that stand out to me is a new email interface or standard. So much time is currently wasted answering email that it has become a necessity that a new format be developed.

The other idea is title moore’s law. The world is in a serious need for a compiler of some sort that would automatically multithread code or allow it to run on multiple cpu cores without a change in the programming syntax. THIS IS HUGE. To big for me.

Unfortunately I have discovered that I have Schlep Blindness, http://paulgraham.com/schlep.html

Start-ups

I got an idea for a startup this morning, This could be a good project to put on my resume. The hard part, a business model. So much of monetization on the web is through advertising and the problem with advertising is that you are paid per click. (meaning 1 in 10,000 is you are lucky) What the world really needs is a better platform for advertising on the web. Something more interactive. Until then startups will live off VC money.

That means in order for me to make a new start up, I need to front the money until a nice VC comes along.

so, step 1 of the start-up a new method of monetizing online content… any ideas? lol
